Screening and Application of Raw Materials for Cosmetic Packaging

In the cosmetic industry chain, packaging may seem like just the “outerwear” of products, but it is actually a core carrier for safeguarding the quality of contents and ensuring the safety of user use. High-quality raw materials are the starting point of all this. Many people’s understanding of packaging raw materials is limited to “as long as they are usable”, yet they overlook the hidden dangers brought by inferior raw materials—these can directly damage brand reputation, shorten product service life, and even cross safety lines. This is the fundamental reason why we always prioritize raw material screening.

1. High-quality raw materials first meet basic durability requirements

We reject inferior recycled materials and opt for eco-friendly virgin materials and compliant green recycled raw materials, covering PET, PE, PP, PETG, ABS and other high-quality materials dedicated to cosmetic packaging.
  • PET: Transparent and highly recyclable

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) is one of the most popular choices due to its excellent transparency and recyclability. Brands prefer PET when they want product colors to be clearly visible through transparent and smooth hoses. It is sturdy, lightweight and cost-effective, though less flexible than some alternative materials.

  • PE: Soft, flexible and suitable for thick formulations

Polyethylene (PE) is commonly used for squeeze lip gloss tubes because of its flexibility. Thick lip gloss and lip balm can be squeezed out smoothly, and the material is durable enough to resist cracking. PE has lower transparency than PET, giving it a softer, more natural appearance that is favored by minimalist or skincare brands.

  • PP: An essential material for bottle caps and internal components

While Polypropylene (PP) is generally not used for the main body of lip gloss due to limited transparency, it excels in bottle caps, tube bodies and internal packaging parts. Its excellent chemical resistance and recyclability make it a primary material in lip gloss packaging systems.

  • PETG: Bright luster, toughness, durability and high-end appearance

PETG offers higher transparency and toughness than traditional PET. It is an ideal choice for brands that want to create a transparent and luxurious texture without using acrylic components. PETG is more crack-resistant and can present a high-end glass-like smooth appearance.

  • ABS: Durable with high surface gloss

Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is often used for bottle caps and decorative parts due to its high gloss and strong impact resistance. This material has a thick texture and exudes a high-end feel, but its recyclability is relatively limited (with high recycling difficulty and cost), making it less eco-friendly than general plastics such as PET/PE/PP.

  • Aluminum: 100% recyclable, simple and elegant

Aluminum is increasingly favored by cosmetic brands seeking customized lip gloss tube packaging for its eco-friendly properties and high-end quality. It can effectively block ultraviolet rays, is lightweight and portable, and can be recycled infinitely. Although aluminum itself is not transparent, its frosted or matte surface can create a premium texture. Since aluminum is prone to reacting with some acidic/oily cosmetic formulations, a barrier coating is usually required on the inner wall.

These virgin raw materials have a compact molecular structure, and the packaging made from them features more stable anti-fall, pressure-resistant and temperature change-resistant performance. They are not prone to deformation, cracking, embrittlement and other issues during cross-border transportation, warehouse storage and daily use, eliminating brand concerns about transportation losses, after-sales complaints and other basic problems—this is the core practical value of packaging materials.

2. The core value of high-quality raw materials is safety compatibility

Most cosmetic products come into direct contact with the skin, especially eye, lip and facial care products, which have extremely high safety requirements for packaging raw materials. Every batch of raw materials we select has passed strict internal testing, containing no prohibited substances such as heavy metals, phthalates and harmful volatile compounds. They will not undergo chemical reactions with essences, makeup, hair and body care products and other contents, which can not only prevent the deterioration, peculiar smell and leakage of contents, but also eliminate the risk of skin irritation caused by inferior raw materials, safeguard the brand’s safety bottom line, and conform to the basic industry norms for product safety.

3. High-quality raw materials are also the hidden strength for the long-term development of brands

Compared with low-cost inferior raw materials, virgin high-quality raw materials may have a slightly higher cost, but the stability and safety they bring can reduce the brand’s after-sales and rework costs, and more importantly, accumulate user trust. The hand feel and texture of packaging when used by users, though not directly quantifiable, can subtly enhance brand recognition. We do not overstate the “top-tier” attributes of raw materials, but adhere to a pragmatic screening standard, ensuring that the raw materials of each packaging product can match the brand’s basic pursuit of quality, eliminate hidden dangers from the source, and escort the products.
